ABOUT THE NJIT AERO TEAM

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aero Team at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is an organization which is dedicated in promoting opportunities for students to apply their knowledge to aerospace projects outside of the classroom.  SAE annually hosts an international Aero Design Competition in which students from dozens of universities are given constraints to design, build, and fly a radio controlled airplane. The NJIT Aero Team will participate in the Regular Class Competition in which the craft must carry an optimal ratio of soccer balls and payload plates and minimize wingspan and cargo bay length to maximize points.

Design subTeam​s

Landing Gear Team

Responsible for designing the undercarriage of the aircraft used in takeoff and landing with minimal damage.

Fuselage Team

Responsible for understanding all structural aspects of the aircraft and supports the design of passengers and luggage location.

Wing Team

Supports novice aerodynamics in order to design features such as the type of airfoil and structural design of the wing.

Electronics Team

Responsible for designing the intermediate electric systems that will allow for proper interface for the airplane's operation.

Tail Team

Responsible for understanding the aerodynamic factors that elevators and rudder play in the lift and steering of the aircraft.

Analysis Team

Composed of the Propulsion and Simulations group. Tasked with creating full assembly and running simulations of aircraft. Analyzes thrust, lift, and uses the foundations of aerodynamics to properly call design changes.
